Parent Pages - Helping your Child Achieve

Page Links:
Teachers employ many strategies to help students succeed.  This page will help you as a parent to know what has been used by others to help students succeed.  Two things that generally make a difference include Parent Involvement and Parent Attitude.
Parent Involvement At Home- This is different for every student, but almost all students want their parents to notice when they are doing well and when they are improvement.  High, but not impossible expectations communicate that what they do at school really matters.  Reading to them or reading time with them, taking time to help them with their studies (but not doing it for them), and even spending time with them in the same room while they are studying communicate caring.

Volunteering- Studies have shown that achievement is better when parents take an active role in the schools.  This is often much easier to do at the elementary level, but has worked in middle schools and high schools.

Parent Attitude Attitude is much harder to define, but it is important.  Students are always listening and guess at your attitude based on what you say and do. Are you supportive of education.
