The Mitchell Community Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)3 organization created in 2001 and maintained to provide scholarships for every graduating senior from MHS or MCHS who qualify. This fund assists Mitchell’s graduating seniors to attain their goals of continuing educational opportunities and to demonstrate Mitchell’s belief in their youth. The student must attend a postsecondary institution to receive the scholarship money and complete the necessary claim form. A board of directors oversees the efforts, and all monies raised are done through fundraising and special events. Community members and school representatives are members of the board that has no fiscal relationship with the Mitchell School District or Mitchell Christian School. Funds are held and managed by the Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation with 100% of money raised dedicated to scholarship awards.

After music & guidance, Mrs. Clement's First-grade class took a brain break and did some yoga! Yoga is a great way to improve your attention span, reduce stress, strengthen your memory, and is a great brain-booster. Have you done any yoga today?

Mrs. Vogl's first graders are working on a 5-page narrative book! Each student is creating their own story, complete with a unique book cover. Today, students worked on making their covers and story pages, ensuring they add supporting details that will allow readers to visualize the story. Such a fun activity! We cannot wait to see their finished books!

Don't forget about the Student Council Chocolate Rose sale this week! Chocolate Rose Sales will happen in the mornings, before school. What a SWEET way to send a friend a special treat on Valentine's Day while supporting the GBR Student Council!

The Beach Day festivities continue! Each class has the opportunity to play volleyball during the day but the fun part is lunch. We went full Beach Mode with a picnic of Hot Dogs and sitting on blankets & towels. Dreaming of warmer weather!

Mrs. Cassutt had a game day of UNO with her first-grade growing block students today. Uno is a great game to practice matching numbers and colors, as well as counting (those pesky draw 4 cards!). It is also a great way to get students to work on building their social skills by taking turns. We love getting to play games, especially when we get so sneak in some education!

Happy Beach Day from GBR!! We have been loving the nice weather this week and what better way to celebrate than some volleyball in the commons? PLC split up and played a game against each other. What a fun Brain Break!

Mrs. Gulledge had a small group of First graders with her this morning. They worked on a daily Chit Chat and answered questions, filled in the blanks, and took turns going up to the board! The students worked on some math and ELA activities. What a fun & interactive way to learn!

Mr. Grotjohn's fifth graders are learning all about volume and estimation in math today! They discussed what measurement they would use when estimating the measurement used for a car's gas tank (liters vs. milliliters). They then examined their water bottles to see what is typically used to tell the volume their water bottle can hold! We love getting to see real-world connections as we learn new things. Great job Mr. Grotjohn!!

Check out what's going on tomorrow February 2! Don't forget about Beach Day!

Mrs. Zirpel's Fourth graders enjoyed some Art today with Mrs. Geist! Students were working on making foil-covered ornaments. The ornaments contained hidden shapes that were used to create concentric, radial designs. Students then used contrasting colors to highlight the positive and negative space in their ornaments. We cannot wait to see how these turn out!

Mrs. Budahl's 2nd-grade students had a lesson this morning about sinkholes led by Miss Hanson! The class has been learning about natural disasters experienced by different parts of the world, and today they focused on sinkholes. Some sinkholes occur in the ocean, and the class shared whether they would or wouldn't swim above a sinkhole. After the lesson, students had a Brain Break where they WENT BANANAS doing the 'Go Bananas' dance!"
