This morning, GBR started the day off with some beautiful music by DWU. Students got to hear from the Highlanders' top singing choir and listen to members of the DWU Band. What a wonderful start to the day! Thank you DWU for playing for us today!

Mrs. Duffy & Mrs. Elias are teaming up to have their fifth graders build a city! Today, for math class, they're at the beginning stages of constructing a city using 3-D shapes. The students will begin by calculating the surface area of their shapes and then move on to determine the volume. What a fun and creative way for these students to master their understanding of volume!

Today, Mrs. Cass, one of our incredible speech pathologists, engaged in a stimulating matching game session with a student! This interactive activity not only fosters enjoyment but also enhances the student's vocabulary mastery and word recall. Such engaging games are instrumental in making learning fun while refining essential language skills. Thank you, Mrs. Cass, for your dedication to creating enriching experiences for our students!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for May 3rd and join in on the fun at First Fridays on Main! The Mitchell Area First Responders are hosting a bike rodeo from 5:00 - 9:00 pm. They will be teaching about bike safety which is important to know as we head into summer.

Mrs. Budahl's second-grade class is learning all about recycling for Earth Day! With the help of a special guest, Dr. Pruitt, these second-graders learned how to recycle old (clean) socks and make them into sock monsters! Not only are these students learning about different ways to recycle but also the important life skill of how to sew. Thank you, Dr. Pruitt!!

Mrs. Brua's first-grade class was hard at work today during their literacy centers! Some students worked in a small group with Mrs. Brua where they focused on reviewing r-controlled vowels with a fun activity. Other literacy centers included reading activities on computers, working on letters and sight words, and worksheets that reviewed 'R' or the word of the day, 'once'. Some students also got to enjoy reading a book independently. We love seeing all the different ways our students are working on mastering their literacy skills!

Mrs. Brua's first-grade class bid farewell today to their DWU practicum student, Miss Lucas. They truly cherished every moment she spent in the classroom with them! She was a perfect addition to their class over the last couple of months and provided immense help in assisting them with all their learning. We hope she has a wonderful remainder of her school year and summer, and we can't wait to see her rocking her own classroom in the future!

Today was a bittersweet day for the second-grade class in Mrs. Budahl's room. They have had the joy & honor of having the lovely Miss Hansen in their classroom this school year. Miss Hansen, thank you so much for being such a huge part of the education of these second-graders, and helping them to learn and grow in so many ways. We will miss you so much! We cannot wait to hear about all your adventures in your classroom. You will be such an amazing teacher!
