Join us, Monday October 6th from 6-7 pm on the Corn Palace Plaza, for a fun night! The MSD team has been working hard, arranging activities and businesses. They even have a few stylists from Hollywood Style offering FREE haircuts/trims for families! Come meet other elementary families, connect with local businesses and enjoy some fun for the whole family.

We are having a bodacious day at Longfellow. It's 80s day! Our halls are full of mallrats. The colors are bright, the hair is high and, and the leather jackets are bogus but it's totally rad! Our fly den teachers dressed up as their fave cartoon and we think they look tubular!

It is the week of Homecoming and our lions were tasked with dressing like a teacher. We have some VERY professional students! Teachers dressed up like students, so we had some pretty comfy teachers!

Reminder that Longfellow clothing order forms are due Oct 3rd. If you need a form, let the teacher know or stop in at the office.

Lions are hitting the town and selling raffle tickets for our only annual fundraiser. All money raised will go to our Longfellow PTO who pays for field trip bussing, classroom materials, playground equipment and so much more! The drawing will be held October 3rd, at our Decade Disco. If your name is drawn, prizes include: $300, $200 or $100!! When classes meet their goal, they get to 'paint a teacher' of their choosing!

We caught our youngest Lions working on the very basic of skills, properly walking up and down stairs. Every other foot on every other step. It seems simple but it is a big milestone in development. Begindergarten is a great place to focus on those skills we need to become a student who is ready to learn! You can work on these things at home too. Putting on shoes, dressing and undressing (clothes, jackets, snow pants), opening doors by themselves, carrying their plate, cleaning up spills, etc. Something as small as helping put away groceries grows confidence while using all of their muscles and coordination.

Homecoming is here. Join our Student Council for dress up next week. Remember, no face paint, colored hair spray or hats allowed. Gooooooo KERNELS!

The Marching Band Preview Night is TOMORROW (Fri, Sept 19th). While all are encouraged to attend the game, our 5th grade band members are JOINING the MHS Marching Band to experience what it's like to perform at a football game!

Local authors will be at Longfellow on September 10th!
If you'd like to order any of their books, you can go online or print and fill out the form provided. What a fun event! We love having authors read to our lions and talk about their love of reading and writing!

Snack Pack forms are due tomorrow, Sept 4th.

School photos will be taken THIS WEDNESDAY, September 3rd! You may use the picture packet that was sent home at Open House, pick up a packet from the office, or go online to order photos.

Please take a moment to look through the September newsletter and refer back to it for important information. We have had so much already going on and we're only 8 days in!!!! Enjoy the long weekend and we will see our lions on TUESDAY!

Boy did our Lions show up today! There may have been a couple of tears at drop off (parents included) but it was all smiles by 8:30 AM. Thanks for a great day!! That can't happen without a dedicated staff, amazing kiddos, and supportive families. Let's make this year the best one yet!

Mrs. Sonne, Dr. Childs, and Cornelius stopped by to present our Den teachers with a generous check via the Kid's Grant. Our Den teachers use a 'check book' system to hold students accountable for school work, positive behaviors, and following our Habits of Mind. This grant will help with supplies and rewards for our Lions!

Thank you to the DWU football team for welcoming our Lions back to school! What a fun treat!

Welcome letters from teachers have been mailed and you SHOULD have received them this week. Feel free to contact the office at 605-995-3092 if you did not get a letter yet. We will want to verify your address and let you know which wonderful teacher your child will have this year. You can also come in at open house and we can direct you to the correct room as well. OPEN HOUSE Is Wednesday, August 13th from 5-6pm.
